Oriflame for dry skin

One of the problems many people have is dry skin. This can affect the skin on our face, but it can affect any other body parts like elbows, hands, or feet. Oriflame has many products that can help eliminate or even prevent dry skin. But let’s take a look at what is dry skin exactly and what other things we can do to prevent it.

What is dry skin

We have dry skin if we don’t have enough moisture so our skin is not soft. It’s important to know that dry skin and dehydrated skin are not the same! When you have dry skin, it means that your skin doesn’t have enough natural oils in it. But when skin is dehydrated, it means it doesn’t have enough water. For healthy skin, you need both natural oils and water in it.

What can cause dry or dehydrated skin

Not drinking enough water

If you don’t drink enough water, it can cause dehydration. Which will most likely cause dehydrated skin. So first of all, you need to hydrate your skin from the inside by drinking enough water. The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine says that we need to drink about 2 to 3 liters of water a day in order to be healthy. If the weather is hotter, you probably need more water.

Sometimes we are busy, and we forget to drink enough water. I know, I’m guilty of that. The solution is to download an app that reminds you to drink a glass of water every one or two hours. Remember that you don’t need to drink too much water because drinking too much is also not very healthy.

Caffeine

It’s especially important to be conscious about how much water you drink if you also drink caffeine. This includes coffee, energy drinks, or any other drinks that contain caffeine like Coke. Caffeine speeds up your metabolism and has a diuretic effect. You may have noticed that you need to go to the bathroom more frequently when you drink caffeine. This can also cause dehydration of your skin and your whole body. So make sure you drink enough water especially if you drink caffeinated drinks regularly.

Alcohol

Alcohol is another substance that has diuretic effects. In fact, it deprives even more water from your body. Have you ever noticed a headache after a night of drinking too much alcohol? That headache is caused by dehydration. On top of that, alcohol fastens up the aging of your skin! So if you really care about the health of your skin, you should reduce alcohol consumption, and make sure you drink extra water when you drink any alcohol. You will also be less likely to have headaches the next day.

Over-cleansing

One of the worst things you can do with your skin is use regular soap. Because regular soap is too alkaline and it over-cleanses your skin, removing all the oils. It feels good, but it’s very bad for your skin. Removing the natural oils from your skin is not healthy, because it becomes too dry. Instead of regular soap, you need to use cleansers that contain less or zero soap. These cleaners will be more gentle with the balance of your skin, and they won’t dry it out.

Dry air

Another cause for dry skin can be dry air. I remember when I was in Indonesia at an Oriflame conference, and the air was so humid there that my skin became very soft. But you can live in an environment where the air is dry, regardless of the climate. For example, if you live in a hot country like Indonesia but you use too much air conditioner, you will suffer from dry skin. Because the A.C. extracts water from the air, making it too dry. In that case, there are two things you can do to make the air less dry. You can use a temperature that is not too cold, so the A.C. won’t dry the air too much. And you can also use a humidifier.

If you live in a country where the winters are cold, you are more likely to suffer from dry air. Because when you turn on the heating, it also reduces the humidity in the air. (The heated air expands in volume, which causes less humidity for the same volume of air.) In that case, you also need to use a humidifier. But buying more plants in your home also helps make the air more humid.

Sunlight

Too much sunlight can also cause dried-out skin. It might seem like a contradiction because we usually sweat in hot weather, but this is exactly why we lose water in the sun! So first of all, we need to make sure we hydrate in sunny weather (drinking more water), and also make sure to use a moisturizer cream after being in the sun.
